Not one of Mars' experiments on animals is required by law. Even so, Mars has paid experimenters to kill untold numbers of animals in tests:



  • Mars recently funded an experiment on rats at the University of California, San Francisco, to determine the effect of chocolate ingredients on the animals' blood vessels, even though the experimenter admitted that studies have already been done using humans. Experimenters force-fed the rats by shoving plastic tubes down their throats and then cut open the rats' legs to expose an artery, which was clamped shut to block blood flow. After the experiment, the animals were killed.
  • Mars funded a deadly experiment on mice that was published in a 2007 issue of the Journal of Neuroscience in which mice were fed flavanols (phytochemicals that are found in chocolate) and forced to swim in a pool of water mixed with white paint to hide a submerged platform, which the mice had to find in order to avoid drowning, only to be killed and dissected later on.
  • In one experiment supported by Mars and conducted by the current Mars, Inc., endowed chair in developmental nutrition at the University of California, Davis, rats were fed cocoa and anesthesized with carbon dioxide so that blood could be collected by a needle injected directly into the heart—a procedure criticized by U.S. Department of Agriculture researcher Dr. William T. Golde, who notes: “This is not a simple method. … Missing the heart or passing the needle completely through the heart could lead to undetected internal bleeding or other complications.”
  • Mars supported a cruel experiment to learn how a chocolate ingredient called PQQ affects metabolism by cramming baby mice into 200-milliliter Plexiglas metabolic chambers—around half the size of a 12-ounce soda can—and then submerging the chamber for nearly five hours in a chilled water bath, inducing labored breathing in the distressed mice. Experimenters then shoved tubes down the mice’s throats every day for 10 days to force-feed them the PQQ, after which they were killed and cut up for analysis.
  • Mars funded a test in which experimenters forced rabbits to eat a high-cholesterol diet with varying amounts of cocoa, then cut out and examined tissue from the rabbits' primary blood vessel to the heart to determine the effect of cocoa on rabbits’ muscle tissue.
  • Mars supported a test in which experimenters attached plastic tubes to arteries in guinea pigs' necks and injected cocoa ingredients into their jugular veins to examine the effect of cocoa ingredients on their blood pressure.

Tests conducted on human feces fertilizers used for growing foods have revealed the presence of potentially fatal bugs, despite having undergone treatment, according to an exclusive investigation by The Sunday Telegraph. 

The News Limited paper reported yesterday that two samples of fertiliser tested by Biotech Laboratories, revealed traces of salmonella, an infectious virus and the parasite blastocystis, which is usually found in filthy water in developing countries.

The results of the tests contradict previous advice provided by health officials and Sydney Water, who said the “biosolids†program that turns raw sewage into fertiliser for use in agricultural farming, is safe.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, fertilisers made from human waste are currently used in 20 wheat, canola and oats farms in NSW. There are also claims it is being used on vegetable and dairy farms in Queensland.

The incident has led to a call for foods grown from human waste fertilizers to be banned from supermarket shelves.

Now you have another good reason to grown your own veggies. If you don't have a garden, you can always grow in containers on your window-sill, on your balcony, at your front and back door...... just remember not to use human excretment as your fertilizer!

Bragg’s Liquid Aminos: Poison?

This long-standing favorite of the natural foods crowd has recently come under scrutiny regarding its composition. The label does not mention any salt in its ingredients, but it is salty. What some people noticed was that they felt poorly after consuming it. Once the rage for those who were trying to reduce their consumption of sea salt and use an alternative to soy sauce, some questions have arisen--questions that Bragg’s has yet to answer.  Is MSG a byproduct of its manufacture?
The following was written by Griselda Blazey who has a B.S. in biology, a M.S. is biochemistry, and a post-doctorate in endocrinology. She also has a degree from the now defunct College of Dietary Therapy in England. She authored a book, Food Matters, and a workbook called Nutritional Transformation. She taught cell physiology, metabolic disorders, and nutrition at Life Chiropractic College West, in San Leandro, California:
“...how Bragg Aminos are made. ...here’s an armchair biologist’s answer, meaning that I don’t know this for sure, but it’s the only thing that makes scientific sense. If I were given some vegetable protein and were asked to make it into amino acids without spending a lot of money on it, I would boil it up with some hydrochloric acid. This would break it down to amino acids, but of course it would be too acidic to be palatable. So I would then neutralize the acid with baking soda, causing the reaction mixture to look like this: 2HCl + Na2CO3 ===> 2NaCl + CO2 + H2O.
So the salt gets made by mistake as it were. Now someone followed up on this and contacted the Bragg company to ask if this was how they did it, and they denied it. However, they didn’t disclose how they do actually do it, so in the absence of correct information, and with an extremely salty taste in their product, I still consider the above process to play at least some part in their procedure.”
MSG is the sodium salt of the AMINO ACID glutamic acid and a form of glutamate. Labeling laws permit it to be hidden in everything from soap to vitamins to condiments to food. Hydrolyzed proteins or protein hydrolysates are acid treated or enzymatically treated which contain salts of free AMINO ACIDS. MSG can aggravate existing conditions or cause burning sensations, rapid heartbeat, asthma and neurological damage. That’s just within three hours of use. The most common hiding places are in ingredients called hydrolyzed proteins and amino acids.
Until Bragg’s is willing to reveal its manufacturing process or at least provide a credible explanation of how it’s saltless product is salty, we can only assume that the chemistry explained above is correct and Bragg’s Liquid Aminos contains a glutamate.

April 20, 2011 Bacteria Divide People Into 3 Types, Scientists Say By CARL ZIMMER In the early 1900s, scientists discovered that each person belonged to one of four blood types. Now they have discovered a new way to classify humanity: by bacteria. Each human being is host to thousands of different species of microbes. Yet a group of scientists now report just three distinct ecosystems in the guts of people they have studied.

Blood type, meet bug type.

“It’s an important advance,” said Rob Knight, a biologist at the University of Colorado, who was not involved in the research. “It’s the first indication that human gut ecosystems may fall into distinct types.”

The researchers, led by Peer Bork of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany, found no link between what they called enterotypes and the ethnic background of the European, American and Japanese subjects they studied.

Nor could they find a connection to sex, weight, health or age. They are now exploring other explanations. One possibility is that the guts, or intestines, of infants are randomly colonized by different pioneering species of microbes.

The microbes alter the gut so that only certain species can follow them.

Whatever the cause of the different enterotypes, they may end up having discrete effects on people’s health. Gut microbes aid in food digestion and synthesize vitamins, using enzymes our own cells cannot make.

Dr. Bork and his colleagues have found that each of the types makes a unique balance of these enzymes. Enterotype 1 produces more enzymes for making vitamin B7 (also known as biotin), for example, and Enterotype 2 more enzymes for vitamin B1 (thiamine).

The discovery of the blood types A, B, AB and O had a major effect on how doctors practice medicine. They could limit the chances that a patient’s body would reject a blood transfusion by making sure the donated blood was of a matching type. The discovery of enterotypes could someday lead to medical applications of its own, but they would be far down the road.

“Some things are pretty obvious already,” Dr. Bork said. Doctors might be able to tailor diets or drug prescriptions to suit people’s enterotypes, for example.

Or, he speculated, doctors might be able to use enterotypes to find alternatives to antibiotics, which are becoming increasingly ineffective. Instead of trying to wipe out disease-causing bacteria that have disrupted the ecological balance of the gut, they could try to provide reinforcements for the good bacteria. “You’d try to restore the type you had before,” he said.

Dr. Bork notes that more testing is necessary. Researchers will need to search for enterotypes in people from African, Chinese and other ethnic origins. He also notes that so far, all the subjects come from industrial nations, and thus eat similar foods. “This is a shortcoming,” he said. “We don’t have remote villages.”

The discovery of enterotypes follows on years of work mapping the diversity of microbes in the human body — the human microbiome, as it is known. The difficulty of the task has been staggering. Each person shelters about 100 trillion microbes.

(For comparison, the human body is made up of only around 10 trillion cells.) But scientists cannot rear a vast majority of these bacteria in their labs to identify them and learn their characteristics.

As genetics developed, scientists learned how to study the microbiome by analyzing its DNA. Scientists extracted DNA fragments from people’s skin, saliva and stool. They learned how to recognize and discard human DNA, so that they were left with genes from the microbiome. They searched through the remaining DNA for all the variants of a specific gene and compared them with known species. In some cases, the variants proved to be from familiar bacteria, like E. coli. In other cases, the gene belonged to a species new to science.

These studies offered glimpses of a diversity akin to a rain forest’s. Different regions of the body were home to different combinations of species. From one person to another, scientists found more tremendous variety. Many of the species that lived in one person’s mouth, for example, were missing from another’s.

Scientists wondered if deeper studies would reveal a unity to human microbiomes. Over the past few years, researchers have identified the genomes — the complete catalog of genes — of hundreds of microbe species that live in humans. Now they can compare any gene they find with these reference genomes.

They can identify the gene’s function, and identify which genus of bacteria the microbe belongs to. And by tallying all the genes they find, the scientists can estimate how abundant each type of bacteria is.

In the recent work, Dr. Bork and his team carried out an analysis of the gut microbes in 22 people from Denmark, France, Italy and Spain. Some of their subjects were healthy, while others were obese or suffered from intestinal disorders like Crohn’s disease. Dr. Bork and his colleagues searched for fragments of DNA corresponding to the genomes of 1,511 different species of bacteria. The researchers combined their results with previous studies of 13 Japanese individuals and 4 Americans.

The scientists then searched for patterns. “We didn’t have any hypothesis,” Dr. Bork said. “Anything that came out would be new.”

Still, Dr. Bork was startled by the result of the study: all the microbiomes fell neatly into three distinct groups.

And, as Dr. Bork and his colleagues reported on Wednesday in the journal Nature, each of the three enterotypes was composed of a different balance of species. People with type 1, for example, had high levels of bacteria called Bacteroides. In type 2, on the other hand, Bacteroides were relatively rare, while the genus Prevotella was unusually common.

“You can cut the data in lots of different ways, and you still get these three clusters,” Dr. Bork said.

Dr. Bork and his colleagues found confirmation of the three enterotypes when they turned to other microbiome surveys, and the groups continue to hold up now that they have expanded their own study to 400 people

Development of resistance to chemotherapy and spread of tumor cells to distant organs (metastasis) pose major impediment in successful treatment of cancer. In an attempt to delineate the nature of tumor-encoded genes whose expression contributes to the development of drug resistance and metastasis, we identified tissue transglutaminase (TGM2) is one such gene. TGM2 encodes a structurally and functionally complex protein (TG2), whose function is implicated in inflammation, wound healing, cell migration, apoptosis, and angiogenesis.  In cancer cells, TG2 expression is associated with poor drug response, increased metastatic potential, and poor patient survival. Its overexpression results in constitutive activation of [ cancer ] cell growth and [ cancer ] cell survival signaling pathways. Conversely, inhibition of TG2 by small-molecule inhibitors, antisense, ribozyme or small interfering RNA (siRNA) has been shown to inhibit tumor cell growth and invasiveness and to render cancer cells sensitive to chemotherapeutic drugs by promoting cell death both in vitro and in animal models. The immediate objectives of our laboratory efforts are to define the functions of TG2 that contribute to the development of drug resistance and metastasis in cancer cells. We believe that silencing of TG2 can deprive cancer cells of critical survival pathways and thus, TG2 represents an attractive therapeutic target for cancers in which TG2 is overexpressed.

In commercial food processing, transglutaminase is used to bond proteins together. Examples of foods made using transglutaminase include imitation crabmeat, and fish balls. It is produced by Streptoverticillium mobaraense[9] fermentation in commercial quantities or extracted from animal blood,[10] and is used in a variety of processes, including the production of processed meat and fish products. It can be used as a binding agent to improve the texture of protein-rich foods such as surimi or ham.[11]

Transglutaminase is also used in molecular gastronomy to meld new textures with existing tastes.

Transglutaminase can be used in these applications:[citation needed]

  • Improving texture of emulsified meat products, such as sausages and hot dogs.
  • Binding different meat parts into a larger ones ("portion control"), such as in restructured steaks
  • Improving the texture of low-grade meat such as so-called "PSE meat" (pale, soft, and exudative meat, whose characteristics are attributed to stress and a rapid postmortem pH decline)
  • Making milk and yogurt creamier
  • Making noodles firmer

Besides these mainstream uses, transglutaminase has been used to create some unusual foods. British chef Heston Blumenthal is credited with the introduction of "meat glue" into modern cooking. Wylie Dufresne, chef of New York's avant-garde restaurant wd~50, was introduced to transglutaminase by Blumenthal, and invented a "pasta" made from over 95% shrimp thanks to transglutaminase.[12]

Other than hamburger, I now buy meat ONLY ON THE BONE so I KNOW it’s REAL NATURAL meat.
I wondered about those boneless pork loin roasts…they flavor them to make them taste better…
I didn’t know about this glue method, I was just suspicious of some meats not being NORMAL looking or texture right of what meat should be…..so I DON’T buy THOSE anymore. 
UGH…I just bought some FROZEN boneless chicken breasts filets [ Co-Workers: Does this sound familiar?? ]
 I cooked 2 of them and they were awful…maybe they have glue in them…they sure didn’t “BITE” right or texture of a chicken breast.

Clearly we are just at the beginning of this disaster and very far from its end, and already it is unprecedented in scope. There is absolutely zero chance that this disaster in progress is going to stop now or any time soon, so precautions need to be taken right away by every citizen in the northern hemisphere that is downwind and on the track of the jet stream that will quickly carry radioactive materials first to North America then to Europe and beyond to Russia. This is all going to be much worse than people want to believe, so rush to get your iodine right now! Get your hands on whatever you can for in a few days there will be no iodine to have of any type.

Though the United States, Canadian and European governments are not warning their citizens of the dangers that will drop down on them from the jet stream, this following video does a good visual job of showing what areas will be most affected. With the true size of the catastrophe starting to take shape populations downwind across the entire northern hemisphere had better start becoming concerned enough to secure supplies of iodine to protect themselves from one large part of the radioactive dangers.

Humans tolerate large doses of iodine so the very high dosages recommended for protection for radioactive iodine are not usually a problem except for those who already have serious problems with their thyroids, which is quite a lot of people considering how many are deficient in this vital nutrient. The government's recommendation of a onetime pulse dose might perhaps be appropriate when confronted with a nuclear blast but for chronic long term exposure, which is suggested with what is in progress in Japan, calls for different formula and dosages through time.

Dr. Michael B. Schachter says, "The treatment dose when a person is iodine insufficient is generally between 12.5 mg and 50 mg daily. Preliminary research indicates that if a person is iodine insufficient, it takes about three months to become iodine sufficient while ingesting a dosage of 50 mg of iodine daily and a year to achieve that while ingesting a dosage of 12.5 mg of iodine daily.

If radiation threatens, it behooves people to start taking the highest dosages tolerable to protect not only their thyroids but also all the glandular tissues as well. Iodine protects the thyroid, breasts, prostate and ovary glands as well as other tissues in the body from radiation if present in sufficient quantities.

When treating life-threatening diseases we do not have months to fool around with low dosages. We need to zoom up iodine levels quickly. And we need to get it concentrated to certain tissues or organs. Just to give you an idea of how high iodine dosages have been taken we have to revisit the 1930s when iodine was still a universal medicine present in the U.S. Pharmacopeia and used at much higher dosages than anyone even dreams of using today.

The usual dose for treatment back then was 300 mgs (46 drops of full strength Lugol's) to 1 gm (1000 mg, 154 drops). It is very important to realize that today's Lugol's is not universally the same as it was because of new federal legal requirements about concentration levels. The best company offers Lugol's at varying concentration levels.

Potassium iodide (also called KI) is a salt of stable (not radioactive) iodine. Stable iodine is an important chemical needed by the body to make thyroid hormones. Following a radiological or nuclear event, radioactive iodine may be released into the air and then breathed into the lungs of any being breathing that air. Radioactive iodine may also contaminate the local food supply and get into the body through food or drink. In the case of internal contamination with radioactive iodine, the thyroid gland quickly absorbs this chemical. Radioactive iodine absorbed by the thyroid can then injure the gland. Because non-radioactive iodine acts to block radioactive iodine from being taken into the thyroid gland, it can help protect this gland from injury.

There will be little or no time to consult doctors and other health care practitioners to get the proper dosage. The standard dose for potassium iodide during radiation emergencies: For infants, babies and children, KI is administered for exposure of 5 centigrays (cGy) or more. For birth through 1 month, 16 mg can be administered; for 1 month through 3 years, 32 mg can be administered; for 3-12 years, 65 mg can be administered; for adolescents ages 12-18 years, 65 mg can be administered (or up to 120 mg if the adolescent is approaching adult size).

Nascent Iodine

Nascent iodine, though more expensive, actually tastes and feels good while going down and is gentle enough to give to children, who do not seem to complain about its taste. My recommendation would be to use the Nascent Iodine in high dosages to both saturate the thyroid (which makes it less vulnerable to chemical and radioactive attack) while it will also knock out any contaminants already absorbed. Nascent iodine contains approximately 400 mcg per drop so 10 drops is 4 mg and 100 drops is only 40 so it's safe to take much higher dosages than is suggested on the bottle. In fact one has to completely ignore the suggested dosages on the bottle and take some of the information below as ones guidance for dealing with threatening radiation dropping down out of the clouds that are moving along with the jet stream.

One hundred drops a day is a strong dose, but when treating life threatening diseases it would not be unheard of to use upward of 200 drops a day in divided doses, but if you get your iodine on the day the news is sounding the radiation alarm I would jump right to 100 drops or 50 drops in divided dosages for children. It is my belief that the Nascent atomic form is much more efficient than the molecular form meaning you would need less but when confronted with a cloud of radiation one wants to work beyond the speculative. Again the government is recommending a onetime dosage, which makes sense if there is no time to address iodine deficiencies.

It normal conditions it is important to remember that one should not shoot straight up to these dosage levels; rather, start at low dosages and monitor for detoxification reactions, which will be less if sodium bicarbonate and other substances are used in conjunction with it. But in emergencies involving radiation we have not the luxury of time so one has to thrust iodine levels up sharply in burst dosages.

Dr. Brownstein said he was using 200-300 mg with his prostate and breast cancer patients, and those who have metastases needing the highest dosages. He also uses both Lugol's and Nascent reserving the Nascent for his more sensitive patients. There is also the tablet form of varying dosages (Iodoral), which is used by more than several of the iodine doctors I know.

Potassium iodide can be found in many health food stores. Combinations of iodide/iodine can be obtained from holistic physicians. Iodoral, Iodozyme HP, and Lugol's solution are examples of this form of iodine. I prefer the Nascent iodine, especially for children, because it is gentler on the system being that it is in the atomic form making it easy for the body to convert it into the needed forms -- iodide and iodine.

These onetime high pulse dosages of potassium iodine are necessary during an emergency but they do not come without some risk of side effects, which include: severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue), black, tarry stools, confusion, fever, irregular heartbeat, metallic taste in the mouth, mouth sores, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, skin rash, stomach pains, swelling in the neck or throat, unusual tiredness, weakness.

Endocrinologic side effects have included both hyper- and hypothyroidism. By inhibiting the release of thyroid hormone from the thyroid gland, iodide can cause goiter and hypothyroidism. This has been called the Wolff-Chaikoff effect, occurring in approximately four percent of patients and may be more likely in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Iodide may induce hyperthyroidism, called the Jod-Basedow effect, when given to patients with preexisting iodide deficiency or autonomous, "hot" thyroid nodules. Iodide can cause parotid gland swelling.

Usually, side effects of potassium iodide happen when people take higher doses for a long time but they can occur from taking the government's recommended onetime pulse dose. The standard warning from the mainstream is that "we should be careful not to take more than the recommended dose or take it for longer than you are told," which is only once. "Side effects are unlikely because of the low dose and the short time you will be taking the drug." This is not good advice at all since too-low dosages will not protect one from the radioactive iodine fallout and the short time of application is absolutely out of the question when the fallout will be continuous, as it will be because of the continuous venting of radioactive materials into the atmosphere at the crippled Japanese reactor sites.

When faced with a radioactive cloud it is absolutely imperative that you take iodine, whatever iodine you can get your hands on. If the only iodine available is topical iodine that is not suitable for oral use then you should paint your body and your children's bodies with it. Few people have ready access to the Nascent iodine so will not enjoy its ease of application in repeated measured dosages that are more gentle to the system, thus yielding fewer side effects. Because Nascent is in the atomic form (I1), it is absorbed faster and that can also be advantageous in emergency situations. Its only downside is the expense of having to use so much of it.

Don't Trust Governments Recommendations

Dr. John W. Gofman, Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology in the University of California at Berkeley, has written extensively about the effort to belittle the menace of low-level radiation. People associated with the nuclear and medical industries assert falsely, "there is no evidence that exposure to low-dose radiation causes any cancer -- the risk is only theoretical," or "the risk is utterly negligible," or "the accidental exposures were below the safe level," and even "there is reasonably good evidence that exposure to low-dose radiation is beneficial and lowers the cancer rate." By any reasonable standard of scientific proof, the weight of the human evidence shows decisively that cancer is inducible by ionizing radiation even at the lowest possible dose and dose-rate -- which means that the risk is never theoretical.

Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling described this process as follows: "The rays of high-energy radiation are like little bullets that shoot through the body. They tear electrons away from molecules and through subsequent reactions of the molecular ions that are formed, the molecules may be broken in two, some atoms may be torn away from them, some new molecules may be formed. The dose of 500 roentgens that usually leads to death by acute radiation sickness causes about 500,000 changed molecules to be formed in each cell. If any of the special molecules [that control the process by which the cell divides] happen to be damaged by a single little bullet of radiation from a single radioactive atom, it may be changed in such a way as to cause the cell to divide much more rapidly than the other cells. This cell may then produce a colony of rapidly dividing cells, which in the course of time would outnumber the normal cells of that type. Then the human being may die from cancer -- perhaps leukemia, bone cancer, some other kind of cancer -- caused by the single radioactive atom that produced the single little bullet of radiation."

Iodine will do nothing to protect a person from uranium, cesium or plutonium radiation exposure so one has to turn to my full protocol and especially to eating clay and clay baths to try to remove these other particles as fast as possible.

No matter what we do, no matter how health conscious we’ve become, no matter what precautions are taken, our bodies are radiated daily. It is crucially important to counter this bombardment, to remove this radiation and the resultant damage from our bodies on a daily basis. In the past 30 years we have had 3 major radioactive incidents – Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, and continuing releases in the Marshall Islands. Most of the clean-up at Chernobyl was accomplished with Bentonite Clay. The Marshall Islands have been repeatedly “dusted” with Calcium Bentonite Clay, but the level of radiation continually seeping from below ground has yet to be completely and permanently contained. The “incident” at Three Mile Island was a wakeup call for most adults in the US. Simply put, a nuclear reactor near Harrisburg, PA, overheated causing a core reactor to literally melt down. It became so “hot” with radioactivity it literally melted through six feet of solid concrete and steel housing. In doing so, it released radioactive gasses and mist into the air. Not surprisingly, wide scale panic ensued.

It’s important to know the truth about radiation so that correct decisions can be made. It’s equally important to know what beliefs are realistic and which are not.

Radiation is energy in the form of electromagnetic waves, sometimes referred to generically as radio waves. Some radiation is quite harmless and passes through our bodies on a 24 hour a day basis (e.g., radio and TV wave frequencies). Higher spectrum, faster moving, wave frequencies can harm at a cellular level (e.g., x-rays or radioactive metals such as plutonium or uranium).

Then, there is Ionizing Radiation. Ionization is the ejection of one or more electrons from an atom or molecule to produce a fragment with a new positive charge (positive ion). The classification of radiation as “ionizing” is essentially a statement that it has enough quantum energy to eject an electron. This is a crucial distinction, since “ionizing radiation” can produce a number of physiological effects, such as those associated with risk of mutation or cancer, which non-ionizing radiation cannot directly produce at any intensity.

The unit of measurement used to measure radiation dosage is the rem, which stands for roentgen equivalent in man. It represents the amount of radiation needed to produce a particular amount of damage to living tissue. The total dose of rems determines how much harm a person suffers. At Hiroshima and Nagasaki, people received a dose of rems at the instant of the explosions, then more from the surroundings and, in limited areas, from fallout.  Fallout is composed of radioactive particles that are carried into the upper atmosphere by a nuclear explosion or meltdown and that eventually fall back to the earth’s surface.

Although a dose of just 25 rems causes some detectable changes in blood, doses to near 100 rems usually have no immediate harmful effects. Doses above 100 rems cause the first signs of radiation sickness including:

·  Nausea

·  Vomiting

·  Headache

·  Some loss of white blood cells

Doses of 300 rems or more cause temporary hair loss, as well as more significant internal harm, including damage to nerve cells and the cells that line the digestive tract. Severe loss of white blood cells, which are the body’s main defense against infection, makes radiation victims highly vulnerable to disease. Radiation also reduces production of blood platelets, which aid blood clotting, so victims of radiation sickness are also vulnerable to hemorrhaging.

Half of all people exposed to 450 rems die, and doses of 800 rems or more are always fatal. Besides the symptoms mentioned above, these people also suffer from fever and diarrhea. As of yet, there is no effective treatment for radiation exposures over 800 rems, and death occurs in 1-4 days.

Uranium 235 Isotope (commonly referred to as U235) is a highly charged, positive ion metal found naturally on our planet. Natural uranium mined from the ground is 0.7% pure radiation. Weapons grade U235 has been enriched to 90%+ pure positive ionic radiation. That’s one purpose of nuclear reactors – enrichment. Weapons grade U235 is used in nuclear warheads.

A second type of U235 is known as “waste.” U235 is the garbage left over from the enrichment process. Nuclear waste is commonly 3-5% pure radiation. Some nuclear medical wastes fall into this category as well. A weapons grade U235 warhead containing 90%+ enriched radiation will deliver doses of 1,000+ rems of energy over a several mile radius. At this level, all exposed living things will be killed.

The government, in its report titled “Department of Homeland Security Report on Radiological Dispersal Device (RDD) Preparedness: Medical Preparedness and First Responders Sub-Group” states that once first responders reach the site, it will take 2-24 hours to test for presence of all 6 sub-group types of typical radioactive materials. All you need to know is that a 10 minute delay is much too long.

There are 3 types of appropriate responses to such a blast. The first would be for someone in the fallout area. The second would be for those at, or very near, the blast site who have direct contamination. And the third category would be those outside the potential fallout area and away from any contamination.

For those in the first category (within the potential fallout area), like what might be possible with the Japan catastrophe of March 2011, take the following steps:

1.  If outdoors, come inside immediately.

2.  When in your home or apartment, quickly close all windows and doors.

3.  Turn off any outside air source. You may leave on air conditioning or heat if it can be set to utilize re-circulated air from inside the home.
Note: The benefit of steps 1-3 is to close your home to possible contamination from the air outside. It could be only seconds before the blast contamination is at your doorstep.

4.  Go immediately to an area of your home set aside for such an emergency. Strip off all of your clothing. Using prepared hydrated Calcium Bentonite Clay: Get in the shower and dip your hands into it. Quickly apply the clay over every inch of your body (with the exception of in your eyes). Cover your hair and all nooks and crannies. Scrub your body thoroughly with the clay. Leave it on for 10 minutes. Next, wash off, while continuing to scrub.

5.  After drying off, apply another thin film coating of clay and stand with your arms away from your sides and feet slightly apart. In 5-15 minutes the clay will dry on your body.

6.  After the clay has dried, put on a disposable pull-on garment, a surgical-type face mask, and disposable shoe covers on your bare feet.

7.  Using a prepared liquid Calcium Bentonite Clay and a jar of potassium iodine (KI) into the kitchen and set them on the counter by the sink.  Drink 4 ounces of the liquid Calcium Bentonite Clay and take 2 potassium iodine (KI) tablets or as directed on the label. Periodically every 2-3 hours drink another 2 ounces of the liquid clay.

8.  If service is available stay tuned to your TV or radio to stay informed.

Note: Get as comfortable as possible because this will be your repetitive treatment and mode of dress for several days to come. You will sleep well knowing you are being protected from radiation.

9.  Take a clay bath daily using 1-2 cups of dry clay until danger has passed. You can also give your pets a clay bath.

10.   Wash your clothes by adding ¼ cup liquid clay per load.

11.   When it is safe to go outside, get a clean new garden sprayer and add ½ cup of liquid clay to gallon of water and spray your lawns and gardens.

12.   Rinse fresh vegetables in clay water.

For those fortunate enough to not have been in a fallout area, please remain out of the areas affected with radioactive fallout.  Drink 2 ounces of clay twice daily, take 1 Potassium Iodine tablet every morning and take a weekly clay bath.  These are precautionary maintenance doses that are healthy for all of us.  Simply stay away from contaminated areas until the cleanup has been certified.

As you learned earlier, radioactive material is formed carrying a positive ionic charge. Calcium Bentonite Clay is a negatively charged ion. Simply put, Calcium Bentonite Clay adsorbs and absorbs, capturing positive charged ions, and you wash them off or pass them through your body. Unlike other clays, only Smectites (Bentonites) can absorb andadsorb and are characterized by its expandable properties.

I have written several articles dealing with the risk assessment methods used by Codex Alimentarius in order to water down the levels of nutrition available in vitamin and mineral supplements, as well as the potential removal of many supplements from the market entirely. All of this is of vital importance. However, Codex Alimentarius Guidelines are relevant to many more issues than just vitamins and minerals. One of these issues has to do with food irradiation.

Clearly a threat to public health, irradiated foods are not safe for human consumption and contribute to a host of health problems such as cancer and birth defects. Irradiation also causes genetic damage to cells.[1] One of the reasons for this is the fact that irradiated food is exposed to gamma rays of radioactive material or electron beams causing chemical changes in the food.

Essentially, the food becomes mutated by this exposure, a condition which does not occur in nature, and is the cause for many forms of cancer and genetic modification.[2] Yet, Codex pushes irradiation as if it were a great tool of disinfection with no adverse side effects at all.  

Indeed, prior to the easing of restrictions on food irradiation by Codex, the United States had been irradiating food at an alarming rate. The process began in 1963 when wheat flour became the first food allowed to be irradiated. In 1964, white potatoes were added to the list and the process continued until the present day. In 2011, almost the entirety of the food supply is eligible for irradiation.

It should be noted that under current US law, organic food cannot be irradiated. However, that is not the case with Codex standards, as there is no categorization of what foods can and cannot be “treated” with radiation.

It should also be mentioned that current US law states that all irradiated food must be labeled with the radura symbol and some amount of text stating its irradiation. However, that labeling only has to be made visible to the “first consumer” and that is generally individuals such as the distributor, not the average grocery store shopper. [3]

However, even these labeling requirements are severely inadequate. While these “first consumers” must, by law, be able to see the words and symbol on some products the law does not require the labeling of many others.[4]

It would seem that the FDA, USDA, NRC (National Regulatory Commission), and the DOT (Department of Transportation), if truly concerned with the health and welfare of consumers, would require clear and appropriate labeling for any and all foods that have been irradiated. Although not irradiating at all would be the best policy, at least allowing the real consumer an opportunity to choose seems like a bare minimum in terms of public health and basic fair business practice.

However, in contrast to their rhetoric and stated objectives, it is also clear that these regulatory agencies have no real interest in protecting the public from any danger or insuring fair business dealings.

The FDA governs most aspects of food irradiation but the USDA, DOT, and NRC regulate some aspects as well. There are some differences in policy, but it should be noted that the latter three agencies only deal with specific aspects of the process. For instance, the USDA deals only with meat/poultry and fresh fruits, while the NRC addresses the safety of the facilities used in irradiation. The DOT regulates the transportation of the materials.

For the most part, the differences between the policies of these agencies are very slight. Most of the differences exist between the FDA and the USDA but deal only with things such as where labels should be posted and what size type and font should be used. For instance, the USDA requirement for multi-ingredient products that contain irradiated meat is that it should be stated to the consumer by the label yet the FDA has no such requirement at all.

But before one mistakenly gets the impression that the USDA is somehow more interested in protecting the consumer than the FDA, consider the fact that the USDA even allows claims touting the “beneficial effects” of irradiation.[5] Ironically, vitamin and mineral supplements such as Vitamin C are highly regulated in the claims that can be made about their health benefits but radiation may be touted as safe and beneficial.

To add to the shady language of the labeling requirements already in existence, in 2002 Congress created a loophole that had been the desire of the meat and poultry industry for some time. With the creation of this new escape hatch, companies can now use terms like “electronically pasteurized” instead of “treated with radiation” or “irradiated” by bypassing the FDA and going straight to the Secretary of Health and Human Services to request permission to use the new semantically gifted term.

The HHS Secretary has the authority to grant them such permission. Indeed, in 2007, the FDA itself proposed a new rule similar to the congressional loophole. This rule would allow irradiated food to be labeled as “pasteurized” as opposed to “irradiated.”[6] The very fact that this rule would even be proposed should worry every American.

Clearly, if the FDA were truly concerned about those individuals they are supposed to be protecting from adulterated foods, they would, at the very least, require that companies label their products honestly. This proposal, however, clearly shows the true intent behind FDA policies and regulations.
